In our search for alternatives of first focal plane scopes that can be used for hunting. We find the Vector Optics Taurus 3-18×50 FFP.
One is often wary of these types of scopes because they are low-budget Chinese scopes, but some friends had tried it and had good experiences . This is why we decided to give it a try and write a review.
In this review, we will thoroughly analyze the VO Taurus 3-18×50 FFP . We will look at main features, pros and cons and weigh in on whether or not it is worth it for the price. Let’s go!
Features Vector Optics Taurus 3-18×50 FFP
First things first, let’s review what this scope has to offer us.
Magnification and lens diameter
I particularly like this combination of magnification (3-18) very much because it gives us great versatility . A minimum magnification of X3 allows you to consider the scope for short ranges and instinctive shots , situations that are quite common in hunting , for example. On the other hand, a maximum magnification of X18 not only allows you to hunt at greater distances, but also allows you to practice precision shooting at medium distances without problems.
Finally, a diameter of 50 millimeters is wide enough to give us a good entrance of light and , at the same time, it does not add too much weight to the sight like other wider alternatives. This collaborates with any type of freehand shooting, in hunting scenarios, for example.
FFP (First focal plane)
It’s rare to find a ffp scope at this price point. As we already know, having the reticle in this plane allows us to practice precision shooting at any magnification level .
Many might think that this disables it for use in short-range hunting scenarios, since the reticle is practically invisible when zoomed low.
However, in this case, despite the fact that the posts of the reticle are thin (like those of any FFP) , it is visible even at low magnification levels.
Turrets
I had already seen these turrets in one of the reviews we did for another of the Vector Optics scopes and I must say that they are quite good :
- 1/10 MIL clicks
- Up to 17.5 MIL internal adjustment capability.
- The turrets are lockable and zero resettable.
- The clicks feel good to the ear and to the touch.
MPX1 reticle
We have a precision reticle with references only on the posts of the cross.
It should be noted that this one only comes in MILs (NOT in MOAs) and that the reticle is illuminable at the point of impact , with 6 intensity levels in red, configurable from the left side including the OFF mode.
Purpose of the scope
Mostly precision shooting at medium ranges, but has the versatility to adapt to other shooting scenarios.
Can it be used for precision shooting? Yes.
Can it be used to compete? Yes, but in some cases you may need a higher magnification.
Can it be used for hunting? Yes, not at too short distances such as driven hunts, but for stalking or waiting.
Regarding the platforms on which the scope can be mounted, it really suits everything. Both air rifles and low and heavy caliber rifles (Up to .338 Lapua Magnum).

It is clear that the scope of the Continental line is superior, but if we consider that the Taurus costs almost half, the contest becomes much more even.
Is it worth buying? Pros and cons
Let’s now go on to analyze the positive and negative points of this piece.
Advantages

Advantages in detail
The first and foremost thing is to highlight the good price of the product. It is very difficult to find a decent scope with these characteristics for only 350 dollars , it really seems incredible considering that other models of recognized brands with similar characteristics can cost twice as much.
I said it and I repeat it, I like versatile scopes and this is the case. We can use this sight both for hunting and for sport or precision shooting. Having the possibility of practicing various disciplines without having to change optics is very comfortable and convenient.
Last but not least, all scopes in the Taurus line come with a lifetime warranty against any damage to the scope except damage infringed on purpose. This is something that always leaves us calm when buying.
Disadvantages in detail
Unfortunately for this scope we do not have MOA versions available. This can be a problem for some shooters used to this unit of measure.
Perhaps the only bad thing about turrets is the fact that it does not have a zero stop function. This refers to the turrets having the ability to stop at their zero.
Lastly, some shooters choose scopes like this to practice precision shooting at very close ranges (disciplines with air rifles at 10 yards). This scope starts its parallax adjustment at 15 yards which can be a problem for those cases.

Personally, I think it is a low-budget scope that fans of precision shooting should take into account , especially those who are starting.
The fact of being a versatile option means that we can use it for different disciplines and that’s very useful.
