Today we have to analyze a rather interesting scope. For some time now our readers have been asking us to talk about it to remove the doubts of some undecided and finally today the day came. We are talking, of course, of the Vector Optics Paragon 3-15×50 SFP GEN2.
What we are seeking to determine is quite simple. Is it worth buying or not? Vector Optics is a brand of Chinese optic and this generates a bit of distrust in some potential buyers, who ask us for an in-depth analysis of the piece in order to decide.
That is why, in this review, we are going to thoroughly analyze the VO Paragon 3-15×50. We will see main features, pros and cons and give our humble opinion . Let’s go!
Features Vector Optics Paragon 3-15×50 SFP GENII
First things first, let’s see what the scope offers us and then define pros and cons.
Magnification and lens diameter
We have a wide number of magnifications ranging from a minimum of 3X to a maximum of 15X. In this sense, it is a fairly versatile scope for 2 reasons :
- The maximum magnification is 5 times the minimum magnification (X5 scope). Which implies a great capacity to configure the zoom.
- It adapts well to short and long distances. Having a minimum 3X magnification, it is a scope that can adapt well to short distances. If the minimum magnification had been 5X or 6X, we would surely not have this advantage.
On the other hand, we have a fairly wide lens diameter of 50mm. Remember that the larger the diameter of the lens, the greater the entry of light, the greater the clarity and the better the image.
SFP (Second focal plane)
A second focal plane riflescope, implies that, when you move the zoom, the size of the reticle does not change. This is especially good for hunting scopes, as it allows us to make the reticle visible at any level of magnification (low or high, short or long distances).
This feature collaborates with the versatility of the scope, since we have a reticle that help us with more instinctive shots. And if we wanted to use the crosshair references to make corrections on longer and more precise shots , it would be enough to set the zoom to the maximum and we are good to go.
Reticle VPA-2
The scope features a reticle designed by Vector Optics, called VPA-2. It is a reticle referenced in MILs in the shape of a Christmas tree . It is a precision reticle with thin posts and allows us to make corrections in elevation or windage.
It should be noted that the scope only comes in MILs (NOT in MOAs) and that the reticle is illuminable at the point of impact , with 6 intensity levels, configurable from the left side including the OFF mode.
Purpose of the scope
This is where we have a lot to talk about, as this is a scope that could be considered “ multipurpose ”. Logically this type of sights have their advantages and disadvantages.
The clearest advantage is the flexibility that allows us to use it in various shooting scenarios. But, to be good at many things implies not to be the best in any of those things and that’s the most obvious disadvantage of this scope.
Can it be used for precision shooting? Yes, but to make corrections with the reticle we can only do it from the maximum zoom level.
Can it be used to compete? Yes, but we may fall a bit short with magnifications at long distances and it may be better to have some of first focal plane in those cases.
Can it be used for hunting? Yes, but having a precision reticle may make the posts of it too thin, which takes away speed in the acquisition of the target.
Regarding the platforms on which the scope can be mounted, it really suits everything. Both air rifles and low and heavy caliber rifles (Up to .338 Lapua Magnum).

Advantages in detail
As we have already mentioned, it is a very versatile scope that can be used in multiple shooting scenarios . Many people find this convenient as, by purchasing a single scope, they can practice multiple disciplines.
On Aliexpress, this scope is around 285 euros. It is a very economical product considering everything it includes. It is not necessarily cheap, but the value for money is very good .
Aesthetically it is beautiful. Vector Optics designs many of its scopes in the United States and assembles them in China. It may seem minor, but it is a detail that ends up adding .
Disadvantages in detail
The scope is only available in MILs for both the reticle and the turrets. This is a problem for all those shooters used to working on MOAs.
The flip side of versatility is lack of specialization. As we have already mentioned, this scope allows hunting, practicing and competing, but it is not a 10 in any of the 3 disciplines.
Lastly, I consider the guarantee to be quite poor. Most brands of riflescopes today offer 10-year or lifetime warranties. So, only 5 years, it tastes like little.

There are not many opinions of this particular model, but the few that we saw are good. It is not a top-of-the-range scope , but it is an optical piece of good quality, good performance and a fairly accessible price.
In regards to the opinion of the brand, the level of acceptance of its products is quite high . Users say the value for money is very good and the scopes are durable.
Personal opinion Vector Optics Paragon 3-15×50 SFP GENII
Personally I think that, as a multipurpose scope, it is a great alternative. I really like the turrets and the overall design of the product . It has a nice design.
I’m not a big fan of this type of reticle, but that’s because I’m more of a hunter than a precision shooter. Broadly speaking, you can see that it is a quality product and the price is excellent.
In summary, very good optical piece for the price. As a multipurpose scope, recommended.
