The question is: Did it surprise me for better or for worse? That answer we will discover together throughout the reading that touches the day of the date.

Today we will thoroughly analyze the VO Taurus 5-30×56 FFP . We will look at main features, pros and cons and weigh in on whether or not it is worth it for the price. Let’s go!

Features Vector Optics Taurus 5-30×56 FFP

As a first step, I like to see what the scope has to offer us before commenting on positive and negative points. We seek to be as objective as possible in this regard.

Magnification and lens diameter

As many of you know, this is the highest magnification and lens diameter model in the entire Taurus series . We are talking about a minimum zoom level of 5X and up to a maximum of 30X, which implies a huge range of settings for the magnification level of the scope .

The lens is also not far behind, we have 56 millimeters in diameter, which is quite wide. Remember that a wide lens favors a greater entry of light and results in an image with greater clarity and sharpness.

FFP (First focal plane)

We have a first focal plane rifle scope, which means that the reticle changes in size as the zoom level changes. Zooming in enlarges the graticule and vice versa.

The great advantage of this system is that the references of the reticle will be useful to us at any level of magnification and this will allow us to achieve greater precision in our shots.

The clear disadvantage is that, at low zoom levels, the reticle becomes so small that it is difficult to see and it is almost impossible to use the references at these levels.

Turrets

The turrets feel good to the touch and to the ear . They have a good amount of clicks, the value of the same is 1/10 MILs and we have up to 12 MILs of adjustment up and down .

Also, mention that both turrets are lockable and zero resettable . This gives us, on the one hand, to avoid accidental adjustment changes, and on the other, to be able to quickly and easily change the zero of our scope.

MPX1 reticle

We have a precision reticle with references only on the posts of the cross.

It should be noted that this one only comes in MILs (NOT in MOAs) and that the reticle is illuminable at the point of impact , with 6 intensity levels in red, configurable from the left side including the OFF mode.

Purpose of the scope

It is essentially a scope for precision shooting at medium and long distances.

Can it be used for precision shooting? Yes.

Can it be used to compete? Yes, mainly precision shooting.

Can it be used for hunting? Only recommended for long distances (plain, plateau or mountain).

Regarding the platforms on which the scope can be mounted, it really suits everything. Both air rifles and low and heavy caliber rifles (Up to .338 Lapua Magnum).

As additional data for retailers, this optics also has the following attributes:

  • Eye relief: 100 mm.
  • Length: 398 mm.

It is clear that the scope of the Continental line is superior, but if we consider that the Taurus costs less than half, the contest becomes much more even.

Is it worth buying? Pros and cons

Let’s go to the point now. Weak and strong points of the model, without mercy.

Advantages

✅ Excellent value for money.

✅ Good quality turrets.

✅ Lifetime warranty.

Disadvantages

⛔ They do not have versions in MOAs.

⛔ Turrets without zero stop.

⛔ Hard parallax adjustment.

Advantages in detail

As with the vast majority of Vector Optics scopes, the scope’s value for money is excellent. This is a recurring comment among your buyers and is easy to pick up once the product is tried on. When testing the sight, it’s hard to think that something in that price range could be that effective and efficient.

The turrets feel great, the clicks sound perfect, and the movement is smooth. The scope was tested using the box test method and the result was positive. In addition, the turrets are lockable and zero resettable.

The entire Taurus line has a lifetime guarantee , covering any type of inconvenience except damage infringed on purpose. It is something that leaves us quite calm when buying.

Disadvantages in detail

Unfortunately for this scope we do not have MOA versions available. This can be a problem for some shooters used to this unit of measure.

Perhaps the only bad thing about turrets is the fact that it does not have a zero stop function. This refers to the turrets having the ability to stop at their zero.

Lastly, the parallax setting is a bit difficult to move. Something we recommend is to buy the parallax adjustment wheel separately to avoid this problem.

General opinions Vector Optics Taurus 5-30×56 FFP

Luckily there is a lot of information on the internet about this product and this is because it is one of Vector Optics’ best-selling models. The general opinion of this scope is overwhelming:

96% of the users surveyed are very satisfied with their purchase .

As you can see, the degree of satisfaction is enormous and the comment that is repeated the most is the great perceived value for money . Users feel that they got a very good product at a very good price.

Personal opinion Vector Optics Taurus 5-30×56 FFP

I personally think it is one of the best first focal plane scope, at this amount of magnification, that you can get for the price. If we think of similar models from other brands, we are talking about much more money.

Vector Optics hit the spot with several models and one of them is this one. You can see their success in sales levels. This is the fairest indicator out there. If there are a lot of sales consistently, the product is most likely delivering value.

In short, as a precision scope, highly recommended considering the price.

Good shots!

    1. Hello davitun, thanks for commenting.

We appreciate your contribution, we hope it will be of use to other shooters.

      A greeting and good shots.

  1. I used the Taurus 5×30 on my 300 Win Mag Tikka for almost 8 years. The scope never let me down. We do long distance as well as bushveld hunting in Namibia. The rifle had a Nightforce NXS on when I bought it. After the first year of hunting, I replaced it with the Taurus. In my opinion the Nightforce clarity is not as good as the Taurus and are overpriced. My next long distance rifle is a 260 Rem and it will also be fitted with either a Taurus or Continental 5×30. At this stage the Taurus are my favourite amongst the 2.

  2. Hey there, I appreciate you posting great content covering that topic with full attention to details and providing updated data. I believe it is my turn to give back, check out my website Webemail24 for additional resources about Mobile Operating Systems.
