Many of our readers ask us for recommendations on optics. One of the difficult ones was “an inexpensive first focal plane scope.” After a few days of searching, we discovered this. We are talking of course about the Vector Optics Marksman 6-24×50 FFP.
It is a product that is sold at a very affordable price and meets the requirement of being a first focal plane scope. But the question is, is it worth recommending it?
Today we will seek to answer that question. In this review of the VO Marksman 6-24×50 we will analyze main features, pros and cons and give our final opinion on whether it is worth buying this scope for the price. Let’s go!

Let’s first analyze the main attributes that this product offers us.
A scope for long distances
The first thing you can see about the scope is its enormous magnification range. It has a magnification of X6 that goes from 6X to 24X , which is already telling us that:
- It is a versatile scope due to the large number of magnifications it has.
- And also, it’s a scope for long distances due to the high zoom levels it reaches.
Be careful, I am not saying that this telescopic sight cannot be used for short distances, it is totally possible. But it is probably some precision shooting discipline to justify the use of such many magnifications.
On the other hand, it has a large diameter objective lens (50 mm) which allows a large entrance of light and, ultimately, a better image quality .
FFP (First focal plane)
The fact that this scope is FFP confirms what we suspected in the previous point. The main purpose of the scope is: Precision disciplines or long shots.
For those of you who don’t know, first focal plane means that the size of the reticle changes as the scope zooms . This allows us to use the reticle’s references at any level of magnification. The problem is that these scopes are considerably more expensive than SFP’s, and finding inexpensive alternatives becomes difficult.
Everyone wants first focal-plane scopes, but no one wants to pay for them.
It is so. Those of us who practice precision love referenced reticles and take advantage of the maximum level of adjustment that our scope has to take increasingly difficult shots. This riflescope allows us to practice precision disciplines, make adjustments and corrections at short and long distances.
Finally, mention that this feature, along with the previous one, rules out the use of the scope for the vast majority of hunting or combat scenarios at close range. It is not for that.
VPA-MF precision reticle
In line with the above, the Marksman 6-24×50 has a precision reticle in the shape of a Christmas tree configured in MILs, with a great capacity to make corrections.
It should be noted that the scope only comes in MILs (NOT in MOAs) and that the reticle is NOT illuminable .

Those are quite similar options. One is a scope with a higher magnification level and lens diameter. The other is a more compact and economical alternative.
Is it worth buying? Pros and cons
Let’s now analyze what would be the positive and negative points of the optics.

Advantages in detail
Something that characterizes Vector Optics in general, and this line of scopes in particular, is the excellent value for money of their sights. They are high quality scopes for the price you pay for them. Plus, they are aesthetically beautiful and optically efficient.
It is a scope that is prepared for precision disciplines . All its features collaborate with this purpose. High magnification, first focal plane and referenced reticle.
The scope also includes mounting rings and additional accessories such as honeycomb sunshde, adjustment tools and lens caps. A nice touch.
Disadvantages in detail
Unfortunately none of the Marksman riflescopes have an illuminated reticle. This could come in handy for shooting scenarios where we have low contrast and it is difficult for us to see the reticle. This is clearly a negative point.
Only available in MILs, there are no options in MOAs. We know this is a problem for all shooters used to operating with minutes of angle. and that’s another lack in what this scope can offer.
Lastly, many 5-year warranty may seem like enough, but compared to other brands, it’s pretty low. I think they could increase this period a bit.

Analyzing the opinions in forums and of different youtubers about this product, it can be seen that there is a kind of consensus that:
- The price-quality ratio of the scope is very good and
- It is the cheapest one we are going to find in first focal plane.
On the other hand, analyzing the general opinions of users , we have this result:

Personal opinion Vector Optics Marksman 6-24×50 FFP
Personally, I think this is an excellent scope for training, beginners or precision shooters on a low budget. Probably someone with more experience in the discipline or a bigger budget would look for higher quality alternatives.
That said, for what it’s worth it really is an excellent scope and is probably the cheapest and quality in FFP that we can find at this level of magnification.
In summary, it is a very good alternative for the money. I recommend it.
