Something that characterizes hunting scopes is that in general they work with the second focal plane , since in this discipline the references are not as important as it is the fact of being clear about where the center of sight is and if it is above the animal.
For this same reason, the reticles are thicker and easier to understand in this type of scope. In addition, since the firing distances are shorter, there is no need to use the turrets as much so these models do not include ballistic turrets.
Finally, these scopes work with MOAs and not with MILs since this unit of measurement is more common in hunting, especially in the United States.
Unlike hunting scopes, tactical scopes do have referenced reticles and ballistic turrets . They allow for more premeditated and calculated shots in combat situations.
Another distinctive feature of vector optics tactical scopes is that they work with MILs , which makes calculations a little easier for all those who use the European metric system (meters instead of yards).
Vector Optics Continental First Focal Plane (FFP) scopes are the elite of the elite. They combine the best of hunting scopes and tactical scopes and take it one level further.
They are designed for shooting at long distances (long range shooting) where each factor is important, so they have referenced reticles, ballistic turrets, first focal plane and, in addition, they have a huge 34 mm tube that allows to withstand the recoil of almost any heavy caliber (7mm, .338 Lapua Magnum, .50 Cal, etc). We have only seen positive reviews on these scopes.
Vector Optics Continental Final Opinion
Continental is the best that Vector Optics has and therefore it is also the most expensive. Now, compared to equivalent scopes, they are still an excellent value for money option.
In short, I’d say they are the cheapest elite scopes out there. It seems to me that that phrase describes them appropriately.
